Production
Virgin coconut oil is extracted from the so-called copra, the fine natural flesh of the coconut. For this purpose, the copra is crushed, dried, and then gently cold-pressed in an oil mill.
What does virgin mean?
The pressing takes place at only 38 degrees, which is called cold pressing. In the process, the coconut oil is neither refined nor hardened, bleached, or flavored. That is why the coconut oil from effective nature can bear the addition "virgin". Cold pressing is a high-quality method of extracting oils, in which all valuable ingredients are preserved and no harmful trans fatty acids are produced, as can be the case with industrial hardening, for example. What exactly is the difference between coconut fat and coconut oil? One important difference is the taste. While in the production of coconut oil the pulp is gently processed into oil, the typical coconutty flavor is completely preserved. With coconut fat, on the other hand, the odors and flavors are carefully dissolved with steam. In this deodorizing step, only the coconut flavor is lost, but not the nutrients. So if you prefer neutral cooking, it is better to use virgin coconut fat.
